TL;DR

  • The Commodities Cup runs from August 20 to September 20, 2026, with a $10,000 USDG prize pool spread across 200 places.
  • Eligible markets are WTI Oil Perp, Brent Oil Perp, Natural Gas Perp, and Copper Perp, all scored on one combined leaderboard.
  • Traders are ranked by realized PnL on closed positions rather than trading volume, with a $1 realized PnL minimum to qualify.
  • The competition is open to eligible Kraken clients outside the EEA, US, UK, Canada and Australia.

Oil, natural gas, and copper price the physical economy. They set what it costs to move a container, heat a building, and wire a grid, and they respond to news long before that news reaches a quarterly earnings call.

From August 20 to September 20, 2026, we’re putting those markets at the center of a month-long trading competition. The Commodities Cup has a $10,000 USDG prize pool split across 200 places, and where you finish comes down to realized PnL, not to how much volume you push through. You must enroll in the Commodities Cup first for your commodities perp trading to be included in the contest.

What is the Commodities Cup?

One competition, one combined leaderboard, four commodity perpetual futures markets. There’s no separate bracket per asset and no basket you have to trade in full. You can concentrate on a single market for the entire month or move between all four, and every closed position feeds the same score.

The window is a full month rather than a weekend sprint. That’s deliberate. A month gives you room to sit out a quiet stretch, wait for a setup, and build a record that reflects how you actually trade.

What are the eligible markets?

  • WTI Oil Perp
  • Brent Oil Perp (PF_BRENTUSD)
  • Natural Gas Perp (PF_NATGASUSD)
  • Copper Perp (PF_XCUUSD)

Each one is a perpetual future, so you can go long or short with leverage, and there’s no expiry date to manage or contract to roll.

These four markets don’t move in lockstep, and the competition doesn’t assume they will. Crude responds to OPEC+ policy, refinery margins, and freight routes. Natural gas is driven by weather, storage levels, and LNG export flows, which is why it can move sharply while oil sits still. Copper tracks construction and manufacturing demand, and increasingly grid buildout and EV production. Trading all four gives you four separate sets of drivers to work with, not one correlated bet.

How does ranking work?

Rankings are based on realized PnL, calculated on closed positions only. Open positions don’t count toward your score until you close them.

That choice matters. Volume-ranked competitions reward whoever can afford to trade the most, which turns a leaderboard into a deposit contest. Ranking on realized PnL means a smaller account that trades well can finish above a larger one that doesn’t.

To appear on the leaderboard, you need at least $1 in realized PnL across eligible markets during the competition window. The leaderboard updates live throughout the month, so you can track where you stand and how far you are from the next place up.

What are the prizes?

The full $10,000 USDG pool is distributed across 200 winning places. Places 1st–20th have a fixed payout per rank, published before the competition opens, so you’ll know exactly what those positions pay from day one. Places 21st–200th share a combined pool equally, the exact per-person amount depends on how many people qualify and is confirmed once the competition closes.

Who can enter?

The Commodities Cup is open to eligible Kraken clients outside the EEA, US, UK, and Canada. Regional eligibility and terms apply.

If you already trade futures with us, you’re set. If you trade spot or margin, you can enable futures from the same account and start trading the eligible markets right away.

How do I enter?

  1. Sign in to your Kraken account, or create one.
  2. Enable futures trading if you haven’t already.
  3. Enroll in the Commodities Cup
  4. Trade any of the eligible commodity perps between August 20 and September 20, 2026.
  5. Track your rank on the live leaderboard through the month.

Every closed position in an eligible market counts automatically. There’s no separate sign-up step.

Commodity markets can move quickly on geopolitical news, weather, and supply disruptions, and trading with leverage magnifies both gains and losses. Size your positions accordingly and only trade with funds you can afford to lose.
