Proxy firm Glass Lewis and sustainability platform Clarity AI have merged, the companies announced. The merger closed Sept. 23. The companies disclosed no financial details, but Bloomberg reported the deal was an all-share swap via a new holding company.
Both firms will operate under their current names and branding, a Clarity AI spokesperson told CCI, and the companies expect to introduce a new brand strategy in early 2027.
Glass Lewis, founded in 2003 in San Francisco, is one of the biggest corporate governance insights and stewardship firms in the US, providing voting recommendations on thousands of shareholder meetings across dozens of countries every year. Founded in 2017, Clarity AI provides a technology and AI platform for global financial institutions.
In a statement, the companies said their merger would expand their “ability to serve European institutional investors and companies through enhanced local market expertise, broader sustainability capabilities and faster product development that addresses Europe’s evolving regulatory and stewardship requirements.”
The merger comes at a time when political and regulatory pressure on proxy advisers is rising, as are investor demands for information on sustainability and climate risk.
